EMPOWERMENT

Why should I fear
Or tell a lie?
I can walk straight
And hold my head high.

Why should I bow
When my shoulders are free
Of the burden of pleasing
Everyone I see?

Why should my eyes
Be glued to the ground
When my path is straightforward
And direction is sound?

Why should I hedge
When I can be forthright
For hiding behind words
Is like resorting to flight?

Why should I flee
From joy or sorrow
When I can stand up
And face each new tomorrow?

Why should I hold back
For fear of some pain
When I can plunge deep down
And rise up again?

Why should I stay
And in norms be bound?
When I can be free
And float like a cloud?

Why should I cry
Or be sorrowful too?
When joy is my right
And laughter my due?

Why should I walk
When I can fly high?
Scaling new heights
Reach for the sky.
